Experience
I have been working as a freelance writer and editor in south-east Scotland since Jan 2006. I have worked on business-to-business and business-to-customer publications and websites for clients, including learndirect scotland, The Scotsman, Scotland on Sunday, Editions Publishing, (on a range of business-to-business and financial services publications) and Creative & Cultural Skills, London.
I recently completed 14 1000-word case studies for Creative & Cultural Skills’ new UK website about craftworkers, edited four 20,000 word reports on engaging young people and setting up apprenticeships in crafts, and edited employer and employee handbooks.
I am a regular contributor to Embroidery magazine, writing features, profiles and exhibition reviews. I have also written for Stitch, Classic Stitches, Craft and Design and Selvedge
I write regularly for HomePlus Scotland magazine, writing house features and personal profiles.
I edit academic publications for Birlinn Publishing in Edinburgh and textile publications for Batsford, part of Anova Books, London.
I am fully set up to work from home with laptop, broadband and car.
1986 to 2006
Insider Custom Publishing
I started the contract publishing side of Insider Publications Limited eventually becoming Senior Publishing Manager.
I covered a range of publications – magazines, newspapers and brochures as well as staff and customer publications for a range of blue chip companies, financial services and public sector organisations.
I also worked on lifestyle publications (cars and leisure) for a range of clients.
I have twice been named Editor of the Year by CIB Communicators in Business and I am a Fellow of the Association
